What is in a name?

i just changed my blog name to "Jedidiah". the first time i named this blog it was when i hadn't got a name that could describe the purpose of this blog so i just used "Molanita", the combination of my boyfriend's middle name and mine. lately I've thought about it and considered to change its name. why? does a name mean a thing?

the answer is "yes". a name is said to represent someone's personality or other people say that a name is a prayer. some people name their children with the names of great people coz they do hope that their kids would become great people like their names. for me personally, a name represents my world. :)

Based on this reason, i finally name my blog "Jedidiah" as its URL "honey-jedidiah". Molanita is not really suitable for this blog as my purpose for posting my writing in this blog is not to tell you about my love story but it's more than just a love, i wanna share God's unconditional love that has changed my life. i love "Molanita" but it does not really describe this blog. why is it named "Jedidiah"? you might question me like this...

i found Jedidiah in the book of second Samuel 12:25. it was the name given by God by the hand of Nathan the prophet to David's son. King David named his son Solomon but God by the hand of Nathan called him "Jedidiah". in Indonesian bible we wont find the meaning of that name but if you have with you New King James Version then you'll find the meaning of this name on the foot note of the bible. Literally Jedidiah means "Beloved of the LORD".
if i stop at this part you might still get confused, what is the link between Jedidiah and the unconditional love of God?

OK lets see the story behind this name and its link with God's love.

Solomon was the son of David and Bathsheba. However, Bathsheba used to be the wife of Uriah, one of David's army. David had designed a wicked plan to kill Uriah coz he had a love affair with his wife and Bathsheba, Uriah's wife was pregnant.(you see, the bible truly represents this wicked world). David was successful to do his plan but God knew it so He sent Nathan to chasten him. Nathan prophesied that David's child from Bathsheba (the result of their love affair) would die.
at that time David regretted from his sins, pleading with god for the child and even he fasted for the child, but fasting did not change God's mind coz the thing David had done was sinful in the eyes of the LORD. all that David did (his prayer and fasting) was not to force God but it put him in the right place to receive that he must from God. so the child died. after the child died he entered the House of the Lord and worshiped. there finally he found peace coz his prayer and fasting were answered. he had a sense of peace.

after all the wicked things David had done, as a man we would think that he does not deserve a forgiveness but God is love and just. He had been just by striking the child and eventually showed His love, mercy and forgiveness to David and Bathsheba by giving them a son. This time Bathsheba was no longer the wife of other man but had been David's wife. what has amazed me is that this son was born out of a marriage that began in adultery but would become the heir of David's throne. whenever i think about it I'm always amazed by God's grace and love.  it shows that God will always welcome those who really want to repent. His love endures forever. You cannot ever understand His love with your logical thinking until you experience it by yourself and finally find your self get stunned by His love.
God Himself gave the name for this son (David's son) by the hand of Nathan. He named this son "Jedidiah" which literally means "Beloved of the LORD".

so whenever you visit my blog and find "Jedidiah" just think that your past does not mean a thing before God as God loves you, He loves those who seek HIM with the broken hearts. Jedidiah, it's all about God's love and mercy..

be blessed,
Haniva

  1. choosing names does mean something truly significant-- for when it doesnt then we wouldnt be able to remember it... it means so much to you because I presume you like to read the Bible very much

I use "taimis" sometimes -- and taimis' origin is actually a codename as well. It was used by Leonor Rivera, a cousin and ones a fiance of our national hero Jose Rizal to hide their exchanging letters from their families...

I am a fan of Rizal -- even though he has already been dead for 150 years -- he was a prodigy and if I was ever been born in the past-- I wanted to live his life. :)

  5. Yes-- but I don't think some politicians still remember what he has done-- it's such a shame. :/

Wow cool-- at least you know our national hero by name.. :3 he has impressed a lot of people from other countries during his 1880's-1890's... I don't know why we don't anymore impress other people nowadays.. it's heartbreaking... :/
