Once Upon A Time At Mercusuar Senior High School

Once upon a time... One day, and they live happily ever after...
Are you familiar with these expressions?
Yeah, they are always found in narrative; fairy tale, fable, legend etc.
the lady shepherd and her sheep

During these couple weeks, we have been studying this topic in semester 5 English class. It's very interesting since everyone loves a happy ending story. But what makes it more interesting is that we can create our own story and express it in various ways such as comic, drama, video, story telling, etc.

The first time thinking of narrative activity, I planed to make them watch a video, analyze the story and then ask my students to make their own narrative story in a video. Yet, everything changed under certain circumstances, and one of it was the simplicity. I thought narrative video would spend more time and energy for preparation while my students do not have plenty time after school as the class for semester 5 always finishes at 4.30 pm and they also have so many assignments.

Due to this reason, I eventually switch the narrative activity to puppet. They just need to prepare the story, write the script, the background and of course the puppet. Some students wanna use dolls and the others try to apply their creativity by exploring their talents in drawing. So I find it more attractive as they can do whatever they want to perform well.

And last Friday was the day for IPA 3 performance. They did it very well. Here are some pictures that I captured during the class;
Group 1 performed the story of The Duck and The Turtle
big smiles.. :D
so seriously performed their puppet

The second group performed a narrative story about The Shepherd and The Wolf

This week will be more interesting as the groups that haven't performed will do their puppet show.. I am looking forward to seeing their performance and of course there are always many great things to learn from them..

Happy teaching to all teachers.. Happy studying to all students..
May you all have great classes during this week!!

Stay blessed,
